I have a 2000 xk8 convertible. I tried to lower the top.
After the rear windows went down I got a shower of
hydraulic oil from the overhead console with the
lights,garage door opener etc.
I am thinking that it is the latch unit or one of the
hoses going into it.
I have unmatched the top manually and released the valve
on the pump unit but can not get the top to move far
enough to give me access to the top of the header rail so
I can get to the latch and the hoses.
Anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions on how to move the top back a bit without
forcing it.
Thanks

Not quite sure what you are asking but next to the pump at
the side of the boot there is an Allen key. Remove the small
plastic plug in the middle of the upper windscreen…insert
and turn the Allen key and manually open the top.

Make sure to turn the pressure release valve fully
counterclockwise.
The step you are missing is you need to first put downward pressure
directly on the lift rams located behind the rear windows (hidden
by the headliner). Then you should be able to open the top.–

The hoses rupturing in that area is a common problem. The part you are
missing is that you need to unlock the large hinge for the roof. Push
against it (or pull, I can’t remember witch) and you will feel it pop. Then
you can fold the roof back.-----Original Message-----

Whatever you do do not force the top open you stand the
chance in bending the linkage for the roof. I have a lot of
info on my page if you wish to read about the problem. See
if this helps.
