[xk8] cruise control switch

Hi there!

I need to replace the brake light/cruise control switch on
my 2000 XK8. Rock Auto offers a $105.00 switch that is
conveniently out of stock. Their other offering is $150.00.
For now, I am holding out for the cheaper version to become
available again.
Question number one: I noticed the XJ8 switch is the same as
the XK8, except for the pigtail to the plug being much
shorter than the XK8. Is there any reason I couldn’t use the
XJ8 switch, which is available and cheaper than either of
the Rock Auto XK8 switches, and splice in wires to make the
pigtail long enough?
Question number two: Has anyone ever tried to repair one of
these switches? A little solder here or there, something
like that?
Thank you for your input.

The switch housings are the same.
I usually UNSOLDER the longer wires and RESOLDER them to the
XJ8 switch. Install the switch assy onto the metal bracket
and install in the car.

They are cheap enough and I replace them often enough that I
keep one-of-each in stock.

The micro-switches on the circuit board are also good
replacements for the boot lid latch status switch.

I keep track of the one that failed (DTC logged in module)
and remove the good one from the circuit board.

The boot lid switch plastic housing can be disassembled and
the good micro-switch installed.(the little metal lever can
be fitted to the good switch.)

Hi Bob!

Thank you for your response. I will go with the XJ8 switch
and solder the XK8 pigtail as you suggested.
I will be getting back to you later with some questions
about the boot lid switch, once I resolve the cruise control
issue.

Thanks again!
