[xk8] Drivetrain/dif

June 2002 XK8 Coupe - Still getting that horrible clonk on power
on/power off at low speeds in traffic and now the dealer is getting
a ‘‘Jaguar Engineer’’ to take a test drive, but they tell me that
there is always a noise from the differential when ‘‘blipping’’ the
gas pedal. I am also told that even if they replaced the diff
there would be no difference. Cannot believe it!!! the noise and
vibration is so pronounced there must be wear and/or a fault that
they are aware of and anticipate. I cannot but help feel they are
aware of a design fault and trying to fob me off with ‘‘that’s just
normal’’. Anyone else out there noticed this sort of trouble??

Appreciate any assist here…

dealer sounds bogus. only clonk I get from the diff is when I change from drive to reverse then I get a clonk as the vehicle starts to reverse. Feels similar to a worn UJ on the prop that I used to get on my xj6’s but I dont think the xk8 has Uj’s does it?

Are you sure it’s not from the gearbox? If I recall
correctly it’s usually on the 2nd gear that you get the
clonk until the drive goes completely.–
