[xk8] Navigation Database

I have a 2001 XK8 and considering updating the NAV DVD which is fairly
expensive. In the NAV menu under System Information you can read the
software version and the database version. I have been told that the DVD
only contains map data (i.e. the database) and the software is loaded into
the unit at the factory. I borrowed a newer version DVD but when I check
the System Information it reports the same software version as before but it
does show a new database version. Does anyone know how to update the system
software?

In reply to a message from Pat Harmon sent Mon 13 Oct 2008:

All I know is that on first SW versions there is the Jaguar
leaper as a screen saver, and on later ones there is an
analog clock.

This is uploaded via the DVD: if you put a newer DVD into
it, you’ll get the clock, and if you put again an older
version you’ll get the leaper…

So I presume part of the new SW is on the DVD.

SW is Win CE, BTW, processor is from Hitachi.

The Alpine system is also installed by Honda, and the Honda
guys could crack part of it (they can change the screen
saver image for instance), check on Honda Accura forums.

As you may know, you won’t find any DVD post 2003 (with
2002 date), as Jaguarchanged the system at this date…
