[xk8] Programing Remote - 1999 XK8 Conv

I lost my keys with my remote security control. I order new ones
from the Jaguar dealer and they told me they would have to program
the remote. Since their cost is so high. Can anyone help me or is
the dealership my only option?–

Here are the procedures.

XK remote programming

  1. Key in ignition without turning to any position.

  2. Hold turn signal stalk in the flash to pass position,
    pulled towards you.

  3. Turn key one position while holding the stalk.

  4. Flash the stalk 4 or 5 times and you should hear a
confirmation ‘‘chirp’’ from the security sounder. It is not
the horn, and in an area with high outside noise levels you
may not be able to hear it, it is rather quiet.

  5. After the chirp press a button on the remote you wish to
program listening for the chirp or a different sounding
error tone meaning the programming didn’t work.

  6. To program two or more remotes, which will be required
if more than one will be used, follow step 5 procedures one
remote after another until all have been programmed.

  7. Turn off the ignition and press any button to verify the
    remote(s) are working.

If you did not get the initial chirp confirming the
programming, or learning mode, there could be either a
problem with the security module or with the procedure. The
flashes after turning the key require a certain amount of
feel, very rapid or very slow will not work. The 4 or 5
flashes should take about 3 seconds, not rapid fire.

If your having difficulties, check to make sure the
batteries are good and are placed in the remote correctly,
or change the speed of the flashing of the stalk.

Good luck.–

Hello Max

I have just bought a 1997 XK8 and need to program an additional key
fob. Batteries are fresh, contacts clean and bright. The problem
is that I simply cannot get the security system into learning
mode. I must have tried endless times with slightly different
flashing speeds. Do you have any suggestions? For example is it
on quickly off on quickly off on etc or should the ons and offs be
equal length. This is driving me nuts!

Thanks in anticipation

First, check to make sure the frequency on the back of the
new fob matches the frequency on the old one. It is listed
on the top line at the right

If they don’t match you will need to buy another fob with
the same frequency as the old one.

If the frequencies match double check to make sure the
batteries are each reading 3 volts. If not replace the weak
one(s).

Then reinstall the batteries with the positive sides facing
down, then try again.

Good luck… :-)–

Hi Atra

Call a dealers parts department and ask them. They will
need the year, model and probably only the last 6 numbers of
the VIN.
There are also numerous places to purchase the remote if
you don’t wish to buy a new from the dealer.

Hi try this it I was told it works for the xk8

Pull the headlamp flash stalk towards you, hold it there and put
the key in. Turn the key to the first position, and then release
the stalk
and flash it 4 times. The LED then flashes on the J gate. Then just
press any button on the fob, and Bobs your uncle–
