[xk8] Rear quarter windows not working with convertible top

My son and I replaced the driver’s side quarter window regulator by
following the JTIS CD. We removed the convertible top and followed
the steps. During the top removal we discovered that one of the
cylinder lifts was leaking (I ordered a replacement part -
passenger side piece, lots of wires and connections).

We succeeded in reinstalling the replacement regulator and the cv
top, however both quarter windows do not close (move up) even after
we manually latch the top. My son managed to send a code to the
system to ‘‘order’’ the quarter windows to close - eventually. This
morning, as I prepared to drive to work and opened both the driver
and passenger side main windows, the quarter windows rolled down on
their own and I have not managed to get them back up.

We will install the cylinder lift when it comes in. Will doing
that complete the cycle needed by the cv top so that the quarter
windows will automatically roll up or down with it as before?

In the meantime how do I get the quarter windows back up? This Jag
XK8 feature I would have liked the manufacturers to not automate
this way - but it is what it is… Any help will be much
appreciated.–

I replaced the right rear quarter window on my XK8 last fall
(I chose not to remove the convertible top in so doing). I
don’t recall having the type of problem you describe, but if
you like I can e-mail you a pdf version of my writeup. There
might be something in there that will be of help.–

I believe there is a microswitch in the lift cylinders that lets
the windows know when the top is up. I had a broken or damaged
connector on one of the cylinders I replaced, so the windows
thought the top was not in the up position even though it was. Have
a look at those connectors…

Best of luck,

Hi there, I am trying to find any input regarding the rear quarter windows on a 2001 XK8 convertible. Situation: While driving with the top in closed position the rear quarter windows open by itself most likely shortly after I open the driver’s side window. sometimes even without opening any window the rear windows open by itself and then stay open. When I push the convertible switch they won’t raise again only if I shut-off the engine and re-start or when I close the doors manual by key (like I would close the top). Strange…anyone encountered this problem already? Any input will be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Torsten
