I have 19" wheels, 8" on the front and 9.5" on the
back, with 245/40 on the front and 285/35 on the back.
No problems and they look good and ride & handle well.
These are nearly identical in overall diameter to the
original equipment. I think a 285/30 would be too
small.

I’m sure we have covered this before, but I need some info on replacing the
front wheel bearings on my 97 XK8. Just had my 60k service done and the
dealership wants 850 to replace them; I might be silly, but I think I can
handle it with a little advise from you guys.
Thanks,
Mike

Does anyone have the ABS hub nut tool they would like to sell? And also if
anyone has any info on changing out the smaller 97 hub for the larger 99
hub, please let me know.
Thanks,
Mike

Not easy ! Did mine 2 months ago. You need a good quality hydraulic
bearing press. An oxy torch ( with a delicate touch ) and about 8
hrs straight. Remove the stub axle/bearing assembly as an entity.
Gently heat the sensor wheel, definetly not red hot, and tap until
it moves. bearing can then be pressed out, I needed 45ton on the
gauge to shift the old bearing.

Why did you need to heat up the knuckle? Was the bearing froze in it? Mine pressed out rather easily, it was getting the ball joints seperated that gave me a fit.

I would strongly recommend that you not use a torch on any part of the hub/axle or carrier. There are special tools to press the parts out and the new bearings in. It generally requires less than 10 tons to accomplish the task. If you don’t have the tools, you could still remove the vertical link and have a dealer press the bearings. You often need at least one new snap ring too. It is easy to make a mistake and ruin the new bearing.

I have a '98 XK8 coupe and just put on 20x9.5 in rear with
265/35/20 and 8.5 in the front with 245/35/20. Looks and works
great. New '05 XKR stock 20’s come with 285/30 rear and 255/35
front on 20x10 rear and 20x9 front wheel sizes. All of these
options can work well for you.–

I have a 99 XK8 convertible with the chrome 17’’ factory rims. I am
now looking for a bigger size rim and wonder what size would fit.
Any other recommendation?
