Looks like the one that goes on the tunnel, right next to the gas pedal. The vinyl part is for your shoe to rub along when you push the pedal.
Ray’s right, except the SII didn’t come with the vinyl panel.
Hi Ray, Richard, and David, OK so I have done a trials and it will need some fettling to get it to fit.The kit came from SNGB, for a 1970 XKE S2 OTS ! Thanks guys.
John, any chance that vinyl panel was sewn on the backside it looks wrong to me? Maybe for right hand drive?
Installing that piece requires quite a bit of contact cement. I folded the carpet around a plastic tool and used this to press it into the corner and then massaged it on the flat areas. It’s difficult to get it to go all the way into the corner with contact cement ready to stick… You don’t want it rubbing against the gas pedal.
Tom,
It looked wrong to me too until I compared it with the photo I provided above of the piece in position on my S 2. I believe it is correct.
Well folks …I have played around with this piece of carpeting. Actually it does indeed fit quite nicely on the RHS of the gearbox housing, but even then it is a little too high. I will now get hold of a MrLee of SNGB ! I think its a "rogue " part!! Thanks to you all .John H.
John,
I think you’re mistaken, or your footwell is different to mine. Compare the part to my photo - rotate your piece 180 degrees. The trimmed edges go along the top and front of the part. Here’s your photo annotated accordingly.

Great picture, I’ll be using it when I install mine in the spring. Thanks.
I will say that these posts are very helpful to me as I am making a carpet set from yard goods and do not have a pattern. I have a pretty good idea of the shapes needed and can get measurements directly from the car - but if there is anything on J-L or the web with more specific info please point me to it.
Good thought…but…the back side is black and I would guess the pile is sealed into a fabric base with the black plastic holding it in place . This set up means there is only the blue side out. I have decided that this piece will need to re furbished to fit, and the age old art of Fettling rules!! Off topic… but I was amused in reading about the Yanks approach to building/mass production the Merlin engine…they found it was best to mass produce a precise fit in the first place, than to have a crew of skilled Fettlers!!
Hi David, I have been away from the pc all afternoon. I took our 3 standard poodles for a walk in the snow…3/4hr at -8C. Then retired to the garage to play with that carpet panel and got into a better position. And then I tune into yr kind email and and find that its almost exactly what you had done. Also I should add David that our admin has noted our dialogues and complement us for the exchanges. David and I have exchanged email over a number of topics over the years. My rebuild of this S2 E has been extended over 10 years. I started with a pile of boxes!!!
