Thanks, I hadn’t seen those before now.
It’s interesting that those are both from British publications, and yet they both used the month/day/year format for their date.

The long hand form often has the wording either way around, Rob - if it were numerical digits it would be dd/mm/yyyy.

My, how Silverstone has changed. Definitely still a bomber base* perimeter track back then - that’s the old start/finish straight, with the pits on the right, coming down to Copse - the top straight in this photo:

I’ll be there again next Saturday so will do a comparison!

  • I don’t think any bombing operations flew from Silverstone - I think it was an OTU (Officer Training Unit), rather than an operational base.
