1966 MK x Revs counter stuck

Hi

My working MK10 revs dial appears to be stuck…Has a ittle movement from 10 and down if I tap the glass. Just wondered of there might be a quick fix before I start looking into it?

Hope everyone is safe

First check the generator at the end of the camshaft, connect a AC voltmeter to check.
It should be about 1 volt per 100 rpm’s
I had already 2 failed, from both the magnet got loose from the axel driving it.
I managed to repair them both with 2K metal epoxy, its holding up for more then 10 years now.

Hi, I assume its zero with the engine off?

Stays at 10 unless I tap the screen

I would suspect an internal stickiness or seized bearing of some sort. Probably will have to be removed and sent to an instrument specialist. Nissonger in New York is the very long standing Smiths agent in the USA but not sure where you are located.

I have one of these in bits (an early RV type) and it does the same thing, sticks at the bottom of the scale. I’m using it to play around with an electronic conversion circuit so the sticking doesn’t bother me. That said I can’t see any obvious reason for it, apart from age. Maybe just put up with it? Here’s an image of the internals with the original components.

They are moving coli meters and didn’t change much over the years although later ones had (slightly) different mounting arrangements around the meter movement.
