Could anyone say what the problem is after you hear the noise in the link, approximately? Also, recently a “nudge” happens now and then when stopped at a light, strong, as if got bumped at low speed by another vehicle, definitely unsettling on its own, but coupled with the occasional noise during start which can be heard in the link, gets me thinking the worst.

The startup noise sounds to me like the starter motor pinion not disengaging smartly when the engine fires.
The ‘nudge’ you describe sounds like “the lurch” - an endemic fault with certain transmissions used by Jaguar and others. It even has a domain name devoted to it. See http://www.thelurch.com/lurching_zf_transmission.htm

Going to give the local dlrshp a shout tomorrow regarding the Lurch. From what I gather, it is a manufacturer’s issue and should be dealt with by Jaguar on a case by case basis.
