235/60R15 Pirelli P600

Hi Team

Are you aware that Pirelli have made the 235/60R15 P600 again? This tyre is now distributed by the Pirelli Collezione distributors. this will assure good service and fresher stocks. Visit cinturato.net to find your local distributor

I thought Pirelli went out of the passenger car tire biz a long time ago (or at least exporting them to the U.S.)?

they arent a problem they are with Lucas Tires

to make sure the stocks stay fresh Pirelli sell these small production tyres through their specialist distributors.

These started popping up on the list at Discount Tire although marked as on backorder.

$366 each

Too rich for my blood, but, out of curiosity, does anyone know where these are made?

These are the genuine original equipment Pirelli tyres, still made by Pirelli in the Pirelli factory in Turkey where they make a lot of the Pirelli Collezione range.

These are incredfibly good value for such a big unusual small batch performance tyre. I am amazed you think that is expensive. this is a Pirelli.

What are you going to fit instead?

This tyre is a tyre that was going to become opbsolete, but i begged Pirelli to make another batch because there is nothing else fit for purpose.

This is a little different to the small range of P5 that Pirelli make (that is currently out of stock) for the earlier XJS, XJ6, XJ12 and XJ40. The P5 was requested by Jaguar themselves who also tested the new production and awarded it the J homologation, so you guys are very well looked after currently by Pirelli, if only we could find the production space in a Pirelli factory to get another batch made.

It is currently looking like it might happen in November.

Probably just BF Goodrich Radial T/A.

Sorry for this; but i woud suggest that was a big compromise to try to save a few quid fitting a tyre that is not fit for purpose with an S speed rating and doesn’t look right and is b uilt for a completely different kind of car.

How much cheaper are they?

Apologies again, but this is for a Jag we are talking about, not some slushey point and squirt car.

The P600 235/60R15 is now distributed by the Pirelli Collezione Tyre distributors. Which in the States is Lucas

It is easy to offer a cheap price on a tyre you cannot get stock of. Their price means nothing because they cannot get the tyres.

Any modern tyre, and for a fraction of the cost.

I’m running Hankook 235/60R15 98T KINERGY ST $119 each on Amazon. It’s not the right speed rating but we’re not allowed to drive very fast in USA anyway :). Insurance companies in USA don’t care if you downrate the speed rating. They beat the pants off the Mastercraft or whatever the old tires were.

Pirellis would be nice but it’s hard to justify the price on a used car like an XJS. XJSs don’t sell for anything like UK prices here.

Longstone has some nice Michelins for my 53 Arnolt MG with Borrani wire wheels. Now that’s a car that can justify expensive tires… it’s got bias ply tires now. Eager to ditch them. They’re very sensitive to low tire pressure. Gotta keep them full full full.

Hmm here’s a thing. the cost of a tyre has nothing to do with the value of a car. the tyre you need for a car is determined by what a car is. Unfortunately for the XJS is that when it was new it was too good and too good value, therefore they sold loads and the current second hand value of these cars does not reflect what they are. However it doesn’t detract from the fact that it is a very fast great handling car with great handling.

I do understand though. Some time ago my ÂŁ2.5K beautiful XJ12 needed a new set of the tyres, which at the time would have cost me ÂŁ 1.5K so i flogged the car and bought this Bond Mini Car instead

Though i did enjoy my Bond i wish i still had my XJ12. I have had a few XJRs since, but i like the older saloon with 12 cylinders better.

Not all, but a great many oldie Jag owners putt-putt around as though there was a bowl of goldfish on the passenger seat. Even the more assertive owners seldom explore the limits.

Something like the BFG T/A might be exactly the right choice for some owners…at about half the price of the P600s.

Off topic a bit, it always struck me as odd that Jaguar decided to squeeze 235/60 tires on a rather skinny 6.5" wide wheel.

Certain minimums (like load rating) must be kept in mind but the tire you “need” is determined by the owner…according to driving conditions and driving habits.

For example, if you’re in a rainy environment superior wet weather traction might supersede many other attributes. A smart owner will seek out the choice that is known for superior wet weather traction. For safety reasons.

A person who drives his XJS just 1000 miles/year to the local car shows, in fair weather, slowly and carefully, will see no advantage to superior wet weather traction nor superior steering response, nor higher speed rating. It’s all academic to them.

Different drivers, different conditions, different requirements.

And yes, there it is. Finally a mention of the load rating. Everyone talks about speed ratings, with a follow up of “but I don’t/we’re not allowed to drive that fast…”, but the load rating is important. Perhaps the “cheaper/slower” tires make the load rating. Or perhaps not. Always worth checking.

Both Hankooks and Goodrich are a 98, XJS only needs a 96. With how big and lardy modern cars are, the XJS is looking lithe and plenty of tires meet the load rating. The speed rating is the money part.

Wow, fascinating these are available! I recently picked up a 9k original mile 91 XJS convertible barn find. It is sitting on the original P600’s that look new but are not safe. It would be cool to put a set of these on such an original car. Story on the car is it was in a minor accident of some sort, with something piercing the lower grill and radiator. Owner started repairs then passed away. I basically only need to paint the car and replace some things that are missing after sitting all those years. Car hasn’t been started for 30 years but the engine turns freely. Also need to replace fuel hoses etc. It is so fascinating all the original paper tags for things like the wiring harness are still intact in the engine bay.

Anyone tried these 4 Tires Farroad FRD26 235/60R15 98V A/S Performance might work for an XJS 149 MPH Speed rating

Hello, your Faroad post is just like mine, last year. By the time (Spring) I was to test a Chineese pair, they were not available, so went with Coooper Cobras and am happy. Only T speed rate. Personally, I may not take a “not always available” off brand Chinia tire speed rate as Gospel, BUT that is me only. Best luck.
