90 xjs speedometer needle problem

Greetings:

I pulled out the instrument panel to replace a couple of bulbs. In doing so, I noticed the speedometer needle is pointing straight down. And I can only turn it manually to 140 MPH position. No higher.

Now, I have no intention of driving faster than 140. (I rarely drive it faster than 75). In the 11 years I have owned the car, the speedo has been accurate But it bothers me that it isn’t right Or, maybe it is right and I just don’t know that.

Any advice?
Tim

Assuming the mech is ok, it naturally want’s to spring back to it’s stop. So all you have to do is gently but firmly pull the needle off the pin, and put it back in place pointing at 0 (which is at the pin’s stop).

Sounds like the needle is on the wrong side of the stop; as long as you haven’t pulled the needle off of it’s shaft, gently pull the tip of the needle toward you and rotate clockwise to the left side of the stop.

Gentleman:

The needle is back to the zero starting position… Problem solved!

The tiny end point of the needle snapped off. But it is not noticeable, really.

Thank you!
Tim
