Bellhousing differences

I have a 2.5 L MK4 engine installed in my SS100 and wamt to replace it by a 3.5 L MK5 engine.
I was told that I would need a different bellhousing. Is that correct??
Thanks,
Ron

The Parts Manual for 1946-48 LHD 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 litre cars lists different bell housings for the two engines. The 2 1/2 lists C.701/1 and the 3 1/2 lists C.700/1. The bell housings appear different in the parts drawings, along with with differences in clutches.

The 2-1/2 Liter has a 9" clutch, where the 3-1/2 Liter has a 10" clutch, and different flywheels to match them.
So I suspect the bell housings will be different diameters.

Here is a 2-1/2 bell housing from 1938.

Here is a 3-1/2 bell housing from 1950.

Both are installed in their cars now so I can’t get any better photos.

Thanks guys. That makes it clear. So now I am looking for a 3.5 L bellhousing…

Starter, too. M418 model (4.18" diameter) on the 2-1/2 vs M45 model (4.5" diameter) on the 3-1/2.
