Camshaft Bearings Mk1V 3.5 litre

Hello

Can anyone help with information with regards to the supply of camshaft bearings?

I have gone down the track of having as set of Chrysler & Escort bearings modified to fit but am not happy with the final finished product. You know as soon as you pick up the block from the machine shop & they say that the don’t like modifying cam bearings to fit & they won’t guarantee their work. One would have liked to know this before they started.

Cheers Peter

At various times people have used mixtures of othe rbrands.
And I think even making them from scratch in Ph Bronze.

They are line bored in situ.

You need to also think about the front cam bearing
They are cast iron .
i have seen them badly worn , They take a big side load from the timing chain . I have one here that the oil groove had completely disappeared on the load side.

I had a new one turned up from centrifuglslly cast, iron stock
Unfortunately it isn’t cheap and because of the flange most of it ends up as swarf.
The front bearing also is critical in setting the end float of the cam.
The originals are locked in with schort screws although the local eng machining place points out that that is not a general arrangement on engines. They feel that like most engines a press in fit is sufficient.

It is critical that the oil feed holes line up with those in the block
