Checking In from Germany

Greetings from Germany. Just about a year under my belt here in Cologne. A friend posted this YouTube video, which I had never seen before, and I thought you guys might like this. Hope all is well with everyone…(and I hope the link works too!)

Brilliant thanks Dave, another film that I haven’t seen.

That was really good. Nothing prettier than a long nose D except an E (and maybe a C). Still can’t believe I get to own a car so similar to these world beating race cars.

Truly, the one real thing I miss about Tweety.

The sound of that engine!

Thank you for sharing! I too had not seen this before, and the 1957 Le Mans was a spectacular finish for Jaguar. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6th!! Has any other manufacturer ever taken 5 of the top 6 spots at Le Mans?

Circa Nurburgring!! Fond memories. circa 53, visited a colleague there, We “raced” my new MG there…

He as liasion officer to the French occupiers. I a young AA officer…

He had a real nice apartment and a french girl friend!!

Excellent video and great to hear from you Dave.

That afternoon 2 years ago when I chased you up Utah 12 through snow and aspen remains one of the most memorable of my E-Type drives.

Two E-Types running well and using all the road and speed that their drivers could handle. Let’s do that again some day.

There are several marques with a more impressive win record than Jaguars domination in 1957.

Ferrari dominated in the early 60’s with their 250 and 330; best year was 1962 or 1963 depending how you count it.
Porsche clearly is the leader in this category – ‘78-’86; best year was 1986 when they nearly swept the top ten places. A feat likely never to be repeated.

Here are the notable wins and streaks:

1926 1-2-3 Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6
1929 1-2-3-4 Bentley Speed Six and 4.5 litre
1933 1-2-3 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 MM-LM
1938 1-2-4 Delahaye 135CS
1953 1-2-4 Jaguar C-Type
1957 1-2-3-4-6 Jaguar
1960 1-2-4-5-6-7 Ferrari 250 (spoiler was Aston Martin DBR1)
1961 1-2-3 Ferrari 250
1962 1-2-3-6-7-8-9 Ferrari 275 & 330
1963 1-2-3-4-5-6 Ferrari 250 & 330
1964 1-2-3-5-6-9 Ferrari 275 & 330
1965 1-2-3-6-7 Ferrari 250 & 275
1966 1-2-3 Ford GT40
1970 1-2-3-6 Porsche 917K & 908
1979 1-2-3-4 Porsche 935

1984 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 Porsche 956
1985 1-2-3-4-5-8-9-10 Porsche 956 & 962
1986 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-9-10 Porsche 956 & 962
1988 1 Jaguar ruins Porsche streak
1993 1-2-3 Peugeot 905
2000 1-2-3 Audi R8
2002 1-2-3 Audi R8
