[concours] A Review of Concours Scoring

My comment to George was not to discourage filing a protest with the JCNA
protest committee but his comment that problems with judging should not be
discussed on this forum. What is this forum for if not to discuss our
concerns and issues. JCNA should not be so closed minded to open public
discussion.
Discouraging open discussion is not going to get problems solved!

Len JCNA has a forum for that. JL is not a JCNA forum and the
opinion of members is the prime interest. At the end of the day it
will be the votes of the members that counts toward any changes.
They are the ones who have to execute and live with the rule
changes. This is not the correct place and quite frankly the
opinions of those who do not contribute ar provide any effort
toward the betterment of the club hold much sway. Bob has moved his
comments and observations to the plaace where they may have some
impact. When read on the JCNA site it lists your status–here it is
often difficult to determine who is typing. Len if you want to be
an agent of change-re join your club and get active–that is how
things are done --not my rules just the truth.–

It would seem to me , as an outsider, on an international forum, that it would make more sense for JCNA membership to discuss its judging problems and solution on a JCNA forum (which I expect must still exist (?))

While I enjoy reading about it, it strikes me as being somewhat like listening to private marital problems being discussed on a homeowners association message board.

But I do enjoy reading about the problems.

My wife and I have a policy of never complaining about judging of cars no matter what, unless it’s on someone else’s behalf.
We believe it leaves a sour taste and is somewhat disheartening for hardworking volunteer judges on what should be an enjoyable show.

Well said Mike and exactly what was being suggested but perhaps
with a hammer two sizes too small. Yes the JCNA forum is alive and
well. It is also nice that you recognize the fact that all of it is
volunteer and all administered to the wishes of the majority of
members.–

George,
In my years of actively supporting several local US domestic and British Car clubs, I can’t remember complaints ever coming from people who were current or past active volunteers supporting club activities. Maybe they did, but I don’t remember it.

(It’s a corollary to my observation that people who spend enlisted time in the US Armed Forces rarely complain about food they are served!)

Thanks for all your volunteer effort. (Don’t spend all that paycheck in one place!)

In reply to a message from Michael Moore sent Fri 28 Dec 2012:

Dear George (and others),

It does serve a purpose to discuss it in an open forum which is not
JCNA affliated - the message goes further than just to the JCNA and
the relative merits of each sides views can be looked at
independently and maybe garner responses not typically expected
were the argument put to only a restricted audience.

To achieve a change in the JCNA scoring, it would be probably help
to put the issues in front of as many JCNA members as possible.
Whilst the JCNA forum may be the obvious place to ‘‘get the most
hits’’, it isn’t the only way to do things.

It gives JCNA senior members a way to discuss things without
presenting an officially (or just implicitly) sanctioned or
endorsed view, which would be implied were a response given on the
official website.

kind regards
