[concours] Helatape

On some of the more recent cars there is a clear plastic sheeting
used to protect the more vulnerable painted spots from damage. This
sheeting is almost invisible until you get up close and can see
the edge. My question is… if this material is starting to peel,
how does one repair it?–

Godfrey,

I have no idea what "Helatape" is, but during at some recent JCNA

concours judging I noticed some newer Jaguars with the aftermarket product
called “3M Clear Bra” installed. There is a 4.0 mandatory authenticity
deduction for the aftermarket 3M Clear Bra at a JCNA concours (obligatory
tie in with the Concours list), which surprised the Entrants.

I recommend that you look up "3M Clear Bra" on the internet to see what

you can find. I have no idea if “Helatape” is the same thing as “3M Clear
Bra” but perhaps a web search or contact with an installer will clear that
up for you. My suspicions are that if it is peeling, that it has to be
removed and replaced. But if you looked this up on the websites, or
contacted an installer, perhaps they can advise you on the procedure.

Hello Paul The ‘helitape’ sorry I mis spelled it earlier is on the
leading edge of the induction port of the engine on the XJ220. It
IS factory original. How other models were or were not protected is
beyond my knowledge. Thank you for your suggestion I’ll follow it
up.–
