[concours] St. Louis concours

I’m polishing up the old crate for the St. Louis Jaguar club’s JCNA concours
on Saturday, 6th October. I thought I’d just pop the bonnet for a look see
and tend to any last minute details. Before I knew what I was doing, I had
the fuel rail and injectors, afm, throttle body and aux. air valve removed
from the intake for a quick repaint and detail. I thought I’d better put it
all back together and see if the car would start. A constant replay of my
grandfather’s words running in my head, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
It’s running again, to my surprise.
Everyone is invited to the show on Saturday. Weather is supposed to be cool
and sunny.
Now where did I put those Q-Tips?

Since the on line standings on the JCNA site show you as a close 2nd in
national, you’d better find those Q-tips !!!

pls remind your concours chairman to send me a copy of the results via Email
so that I can process them for the JCNA site and update the online standings

Good luck

Of course, John did have it all put together and working before he wrote
this…unless he took it all apart again after I left his house Thursday
night.

Weather for the show was great…nice and sunny, no sweating. Although it
was a bit chilly when we got there to lay out the field, and my cold start
injector hose was leaking when I tried to leave the house…nothing like a
cold morning start to remind you to tighten those hose clamps.

Dwyer has no worries about my car in D6… The ‘black eye’, crackly
dash, small rust hole behind the rear door, and rip in the drivers’ seat
conspire to keep my points low. We’ll see what else needs to be fixed when
the score sheets come back.

John’s car did well, as always. He can provide more details, including his
exact score, but I believe it was his best score ever. I’ll claim it’s
because he got all of his plug wire clips set up properly after using mine
as a guide… :)===================================================

Chuck:

Thanks for the pictures. Looks like it was a beautiful day for some equally beautiful
cars.

I see what looks like a brown S-1 XJ to your right in the picture with your car.

BTW Does anyone know of a site that shows the colors available on Jags during various
years?

Try this:

…and thanks Charlie for what was surely many hours of hard work putting
these up. I sent the chips to him and, by gawd, he made it happen. Some of
the colors have lost just a bit in the translation but, still, it may be
helpful to you.

Actually, it’s a SII car. I’ve put a pic of it at:

Chuck:

I’m confused. The boot finisher and bumper is definitely S-2. But the
rocker switches on the dash are S-1. Also, the vent window knob was
only on the S-1, I think? Do you have a picture of the front?

Anyone know what’s going on?

I’d say “Series One”. The boot lid and/or finisher may have been easily
changed along the line but I can’t imagine the dashboard being changed !

I must agree, the steering wheel is not what was on our SII and, of course,
the bumpers aren’t federal, no “L” on the rear and it’s not EFI, so it’s an
earlier, but nice, car.–

G’Day Doug, Chuck, Lou,
I think it’s a Series I also. According to the parts manual, later Series
I’s sold in the USA, Canada and Germany had the high mounted number plate
light.
Take a look at the front bumper height at Chuck’s pic at
http://www.jag-lovers.org/v.htm?1002578276, looks like Series I to me…

C’mon people, you’re hurting my brain…
Unfortunately, I don’t have a pic of the front…the bumper location of the
front would solve it once and for all. But I’m nearly certain the sign on
it said it was a SII. I’ll check with the Councours chairman and find out
what info he has on it…> -----Original Message-----

Doug wins! The car is a very late Series I…1973. It belongs to John
Boswell of Wisconsin Jaguars Ltd. He apparently gets around quite a bit, as
his name and car show up in quite a few JCNA events.===================================================
