[DaimLan] Daimler 250 Diff info

First Daimler.

Restoring a 1966 Daimler 250, wanted to know if the diff in
the Daimler was LSD or not? Lots of info on MK2 diffs but
not so much on the Daimler.

Also any idea of how much powertorque these diffs can handle?

One more how much do they have in common with the MK2?

Thanks,

Phillip

Certainly not as standard but MIGHT have been an option to special order.

I know my 1969 V8-20 has a 47:11 ratio back axle but I think yours would be the older version which gave a lower top speed but better acceleration.

I can’t think of any good reason for a different back axle to be fitted for the Daimler over the standard Jaguar item. Standardisation keeps costs down. The Daimler difference are all where owners can see them, albeit some in the engine bay, or hear them like the V8 burble, there would be little point fitting a different differential.

I think the 250 and 240 had identical ones. They both even had optional overdrive units on their gearboxes. I’ve never heard of a 250 saloon with an LSD differential but imagine if a customer ordering a car wanted one, why would they say no? On the other hand, if they wanted an LSD they would be more likely to order a Jaguar 3.8 wouldn’t they?
