[DaimLan] Daimler Jaguar Identification and history

Hello, I have just started to address an older Daimler
Double six. I think it is around a 1976 or so four door
sedan. It has a four carb V-12. The only serial # I can find
is on the right fender - 2B1246BW (the first ‘B’ in this
number may be a ‘3’). The gentleman who owned it twenty
years ago told me it was one of twenty-four made? Would
anyone know where I might find information regarding the
true production numbers of this car and what year it is and
maybe what model Daimler it is? Also - the breakdown of the
serial number - as other sites I have tried do not recognize
this particular number. Thanks for any help. Joe.–

Hello Joe,

The final BW in the chassis number indicates it was fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox.

I do not think the letter is a ‘B’. Should be F, K or P I think. Have a look at the second page of http://www.jaguarheritage.com/content/pdf/jaguar_xj6_series_2_chassis_numbers.pdf

Your 2B 1246 serial number is correct for a VDP Double Six
series 1, right hand drive. It dates from rather earlier than
you have stated - probably 1973/4
