[DaimLan] Daimler V8 Engine Swap

Does anyone know if the larger capacity V8 from the Majestic Major
can be easily fitted into a Daimler Mk2 ? Are these engines of
similar external dimensions ? What are the difficulties ?–

I’m not an expert by any means, but a local (Victoria, Australia) member has
dropped a Major engine into a Mk II hull, and you can barely get a credit
card in around it. He never connected everything up and got it running, so I
suspect there were a few technical difficulties. Quite apart from the
weight/suspension.braking considerations, I’d wonder if the massive torque
from the big V8 might not have some long-term effects on the structure of
the smaller car, but I imagine you’re ahead of me there, and are taking all
the engineering into account.

MPH ! The 4.5 Ltr V8 is physically larger than the small V 8 .
While nothing is imposible the probability of this swap is
considered not a viable option. Whats wrong with the 2.5 LTR??? gnb–

Some years ago at a DLOC rally I saw a MkII with the 4.5 V8 - It was named
the Purple People Eater - whether that referred to pedestrians or drivers I am
not sure. By all accounts it went extremely well - in a straight line however
steering and braking were another matter. That said it must have worked as the
vehicle was taxed tested and in regular use.

As someone else has mentioned what is wrong with the 2.5 - after all Russ
Carpenter, based in SE England, managed to get some 1500 ( yes fifteen hundred)
HP out of one of his 2.5 V8’s ( subject to a few modifications internally).

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

The 450 weighs 70lbs more and is a couple of inches larger in all directions.
There have been a number fitted to SP250’s with quite spectacular results,
but the gearbox needs to be replaced with something like a Toyota Celica
unit and a much stronger diff is required,
Theoretically, the suspension and brakes should handle the minimal? extra
weight.
For some reason, there are alweays enthusiasts challenged by this sort of
proposition, and SP250 owners tend to have a Hot-rod/hoon element amongst
them always trying to improve on the already adequate performance.
If required, I can supply comparitive dimensions

Hi all,
This project is slowly progressing, but as Tony states, many of the issues
involved have not yet been solved, although it will be do-able.
The car was originally a MkII Jag 3.8 manual and the Moss 4spd has been
adapted up.
Cooling is likely to be a big issue here in Aust, but it should be a ‘flyer’
when finished! (although that is unlikely to be anytime soon).

this car, who can not wait to drive it, as I’m sure dad (at 67) wont be
willing to test it’s performance potential!)----- Original Message -----

Hi to all,

There have been some really great conversions completed here in
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Most of the engineering has been through JRA member repairers, and
some make a living out of devising ways to achieve an end in re-
powering…these include a V12 in a MK11 body, an XJR
Supercharged in a S3 XJ6 body, a 4ltr + 4speed gearbox in a S3 XJ6
body. These are just to highlite a few of the achievements known.

Stuart Brown, editor of the JCCV magazine ‘‘Catalog’’ would be a gooc
contact for you in this endeavour. His email is editor@jagvic.org.au

Best of luck with this project…

Hi I’m rebuilding a 1973 opel gt and have found one of the small 2.5l V8 engines to go look at. I’d love to confirm the outer dimension and weight of it. I’ve read on wiki it 30 inches long, 24 wide and 27 height. It was talking about a straight 6 as well so I’m hoping it’s wrong. I wouldn’t be able to fit it because it would be really high at 27 inches. Also it says it’s over 500lbs with out anything attached.

A 2.5 V6 with everything on it would only be 350 complete with all attachments. The V6 is basically 24 inches on all 3 sides. It puts out 200hp while the V8 stock only puts out 140 but since I’ve heard it could make 1500hp all I would need is to find a good rebuilder.

I am not looking for huge power. Just a show car with a beautiful engine. I’m hoping someone can confirm the dimensions and weight so I can figure out if I can fit it in the tiny opel gt engine bay.

Could anyone post links to anyone that has installed one of these engines? I don’t know much about mechanics. I could use all the help I could get. Especially if I’m going to try to make more HP. I’m wondering if it could take a supercharger or turbo charger stock to make more power. I’d rather not have to rebuild it but I might not have a choice after I buy it.
