Disposal of old brake accumulator

Likely a silly question… I’ve replaced the brake accumulator to correct the intermittent loss of pedal pressure. All ok there now. But - how to I dispose of the old accumulator? In miniature, but reminds me of the air brake reservoirs and brake chambers that we would occassionaly get in the scrap steel at the foundry where I had worked. When those got mixed in with the other scrap when charging the 20-ton induction melt furnaces and the heat was ramped up they’d cause the lid to blow off the furnace when the pressure in them got too high and they would explode. Quite a safety issue for the melt deck crew. Since all of the disposables in our county go through an incinerator I’m wondering how to get rid of the old accumulator. Is it not pressurized, nor sealed so that pressure can escape? (Or is that why I had the brake issue in the first place?) Or just put it with the rest of my metal scrap and let it be the junk yard and whoever else down the recycling line’s problem when their scrap goes to a remelter?

If you can get a probe well into the accumulator then there is probably little pressure remaining which would go along with problems.
If the probe dosen’t enter very far then there may be some residual pressure, if you are brave enough shove a nail in there :smiling_imp:

Here in Tennessee I’d take it to my back yard and blast it with my ,308. Just sayin…

Dennis, if the accumulator is not working it will at a low pressure, but just in case drill a hole in it.

If there is some residual pressure then get the sphere re-charged. Look for a specialist that does Citroen or RR re-charging.
