[E-Type] backfire, stumble at part throttle

67 fhc. idles fine mostly (slight occasional miss), full throttle
generally OK (but not as much power as it used to), but part
throttle, or low rpm acceleration, I get bad backfire thru the
carbs and a miss. I have a Crane electronic ignition, new plugs,
wires, cap. vacuum advance works. NOS distributer, mechanical
advance works. timing 10 btdc. carb floats OK. Intake valve
clearance ok, exhaust a little tight but ok. Tired engine, about
100 psi compression but equal across all cylinders. Replaced brake
booster valve. Any suggestions to check? maybe vacuum leak thru
power brake system (If so, how to check?)? some other vacuum leak
(carb spray at throttle bodies makes no difference)? new ignition
coil? ideas? Thanks in advance–

The leading edge of the rotor is what you allign the timing to. Not the middle or trailing edge.

Backfiring usually means the F/A is lean, or an air leak exists.
Perhaps your plug wires are wrong, but your idle would be…pretty
lumpy.

If you don’t have a vacuum gauge, just plug the line to the
booster (plug the manifold take-off) and see if it makes a
difference. The brakes will be heavy, but not that bad.–
