[E-Type] Bad Day @ Bedrock

Well, I knew something was wrong…things just didn’t seem as good as I
thought they should be after a rebuild on the engine. Took the Cat for a
long drive to an old freind (who had always helped me with the MG) and we
found a BIG vacumn leak for the brake servo…and a flat #5 cylinder. I
had taken the car back three times and told the guys that ‘it should throw
your head back when you accelerate…but it doesn’t!’. Now I know why. 5
instead of 6 just doesn’t cut it. Guess I won’t be going to Cat Calls in SF
next weekend…and guess I won’t be spending my $ on new seats =(
Sorry, guys…just needed to vent to somebody that “understands”…at least
I don’t have a wife that doesn’t want me to spend money on the car but wants
a remodel for the kitchen =) I’ll just have to wash dishes by hand for a
while longer.

Joei,
Bummer!!
I’ve lost track. Is it a recent rebuild? Can you make them do it over no
charge?
Good luck, and I feel your pain.

=============

Bad news indeed.

Was the rebuild recent enough that they will “do right by the rebuild”?

The biggest problem I have had owning my Series III OTS for nearly 20
years while in the Army is that invariably one of the first repairs I
end up doing at a new duty station is a redo of the last job at the
previous duty station. The one that was nearly catastrophic was finding
that one of the thrust bearings had been installed backwards. The
hardened steel face was rubbing against the crankshaft rather than the
nice soft bronze facing. The error was made by a German mechanic in
Munich and discovered by me 3 years later during a total
rebuild/detailing session in Arizona. The crankshaft had a three inch
crack right across the main bearing and a 1/4 inch deep groove cut into
it. I have never had the chance to “make 'em do over and do it right”. I
share your pain; Good luck with the whole endeavor.

Hang in there Joei. the first drive, when all is
right, will make it all worth while, at least thats
what I keep telling myself…
