[E-Type] Bolts sizes

Can someone please refer me to where the bolt sizes specified in the parts
manual can be decoded? (I need to know the correct length primarily-but it
would be nice to be able to read the sizes!)

Thanks, Mike Moore

One of the list members put together a nice excel file that translates
jag part numbers into numbers you can take to the hardware store.

It can be found at http://www.e-type-lovers.com/memberfiles/bolts.xls

George,

I am stumped by " BD.13565/3" This is the setscrew which attaches the front
door hinges to the body. Can you help translate this for me please?

Thanks, Mike Moore

Mike,

I’m going from memory, but I think those are standard 5/16" NF bolts but
with a pointed end. I think the ones that hold the hinge in the door are
more special and have a taper on the underside of the head -you’d
probably have to get those from a Jaguar supplier.

As I recall from past sad experience, any fastner parts that start with a
“BD” index are in the oh-oh category: generally they are non-universal
bits, with some specialized geometrical spec, not to be found in any
hardware store. Which means you have to find another blasted copy of the
exact same piece of hardware. Good luck!

Quite often, these were regular a part with some special characteristic,
like a pointed end to make lining up with captive nuts easier. They can
usually be made by modifying a regular fastener.

I think the ones he was asking about have a tapered head to align the
door hinges, definitely a special part unless you have a lathe to turn a
regular bolt.

George,
I just ordered a new set of door bolts. According to Tom at SNG Barret, the
bolts connecting to the A post (what I need) are pointed. The ones which
connect the hinge to the door have the tapered head.
Best, and THANKS for all the help!
