Yes, I’m cheap and lazy. Is there a dye which can bring my 69 rag top back
from sun-dried gray to charcoal without turning me charcoal in the first
rain? Should I just take it in to Le Upholstery Shoppe?

The tops are easy to replace/ One of our fine members wrote a wonderful
article about replacing the convertable tops.

I’ll say this privately because I don’t really want to mislead
anyone, but
you can redye your top with these relatively cheap fabric spray-on dyes you
can buy at Pep Boys, etc. (I redyed my fading black top this way and it
really came out pretty nice–not perfect, but it’s easy, cheap and has
lasted). The problem may be in finding a “charcoal dye”. I suppose if you
were faced with replacing the top otherwise, and couldn’t find charcoal, a
light coating of
“black” might do the job–or maybe not . Good luck,

  • Have you tried 3M Vinyl Cleaner and Protector? You may be very surprised
    at the results!
