[E-Type] clutch operating rod

Does anyone happen to have the operating rod between the
slave cylinder and the clutch fork out on their bench at
this time. I would like to know how long the rod is, because
it is only possible to buy the whole assembly unit which
would take the whole of my weekly allowance that my wife
permits. If I could get the length, I could soon adapt an
8mm mild steel rod with an imperial thread. (It’s not
toughened steel is it?) The engine is a 1965 4.2 (I think
the three different rods had been used over the years of
production.
Thanks,

I ball parked a length, bought a SS bolt, cut the head off, and
ground it to accept the throw out arm. Red loctite a nut on the
threads so you have a means to adjust the length. Anti-sieze the
threads to prevent corrosion.

I have two on the bench but it depends on which slave you are
using, the standard or the hydrostatic. If you adjust the
hydrostatic as a standard then you must lengthen the hydrostatic
rod. I’ll private email you the length of the standard tonite.
read the shop manual for a thorough discussion of the adjustment

Robert,
The original rod on my '69 SII car with the hydrostatic
slave cyl used a 106mm long rod. I went to the older style
slave cylinder, which is adjusted with the piston seated
fully at the bottom of the slave cyl, I had to go to a
longer rod. The longer rod length is about 115mm long. I
made my rod by using a bolt that was the correct length,
cutting/filing the head down, and lengthening the threaded
portion. You can use any ‘grade 8’ bolt, or piece of rod. I
would not suggest using regular ‘soft’ steel.–

Thanks very much for the responses. It solves my mystery.
The reason for replacing the rod is because the extra
section that a PO had braised onto the original rod had
broken off and your replies explain why it was there in the
first place.
Many thanks, Rob–
