[E-Type] Drop-in replacement slave cyl piston and seal

I was on the computer the other night looking for a drop-in
replacement piston and seal. I replaced my unit with a new
original style cylinder unit a couple months ago, but I want
to have a spare piston and seal to upgrade the unit, and
save time waiting for new one to arrive. I found the 1991
Isuzu Trooper unit had the same size bore and a piston and
seal similar to what Ray has built. I went to Autozone and
bought their in stock unit for $18! The Piston and seal is
exactly what I was looking for. It has the internal spring
that can be thrown away so that with a return spring on the
clutch fork, you can take all pre-load off the clutch
release bearing at rest. With the all in one type of piston
and seal, you won’t need the internal spring to hold the
innerds together. That will allow you to use an original
return spring, or even a little lighter spring if that is
all you can find at the hardware store. The part number is:
‘Duralast’ 12413. For $18 you can hardly get the seal and
piston for that price any other way.–

Awesome, I had a good feeling there was something out
there plug-n-play.

Thanks, Tom.

Apparently, the ‘Bendix 12413’ title might turn up a more
common generic name for the slave cylinder on a Google search–

When I did an auto to manual conversion on the v12, the slave
cylinder supplied by one of the usuals was labelled ‘‘GMC310
Landrover Serie II/IIa/III (Adatt. 64068893 - 2507) Diam 19.05 3/4’’
Made in EEC Italy’’

Aside from not having a fitting on the end for a clevis pin, it
appears to work fine. This suggests that Land Rover parts ought to
also be worth adding to the list of alternatives.

Marek, I haven’t looked into the slave cylinders for the
SIII cars. If yours is a 3/4’’ diameter, then the SII slave
may or may not work. The SII slave cylinder is 7/8’’
diameter. In order to use the one piece piston and seal, you
will have to look up a different number than the one I listed.–

Isuzu or Land Rover may both provide a more reliable
alternative according to helpful posts above.Anyone got part
numbers for this?
I am not a reliable source for this but quickly found the
following on EBay U.K.:
ANR2967 fits an early P38 Range Rover and appears to fit
the E-type except for the orientation of the bleed nipple.
ANR2967 & FTC5072 have the same bore.
The Lockheed repair kit seems to be D3296 a.k.a. STC2818,
FTC3911, 300137, 522009. Made in Spain(not China)It is
22.2mm diam.
Hopefully someone more familiar can refine this

Thanks for the confirmation that this works.–
