[E-Type] E type Fabs

I paid $3k, that’s $3k delivered to Atlanta, for a complete set from
Uryk just last year…probably the single best “investment” I’ve
made on just about any car, in so much as stuff I bought for it/them
is now worth MORE than what I paid.

In spite of the obvious hit to those yet to obtain new frames, it is
nice to see great workmanship recognized as such, in this case by
wildly escalating price. On Wed, Mar 4, 2015 at 12:05 PM, sozfingers keefypit@gmail.com wrote:

You will find out when you grit blast them, sounding mine with

was ok but changed them when the price was only £1200.00

Hi Guys,
Most light aircraft from Piper Cubs, Tiger Moths up to
King Airs, DC3, high performance aerobatic aircraft, War
bird such as Mustangs, Spitfires etc all have a similar
frame to the E Type and similar grade steel to bicycle
frames are used. 4130 I think it is called.
Aircraft frames and engine mounts are X-rayed
periodically. MY POINT IS, find out from your local
General Aviation Airport or Airfield who does the aircraft
X-rays in your area and have your done if you are in

I’ve put this up before but you can sandblast them, and if
tat doesn’t reveal any holes, you can rap them smartly all
over with the ball of a small ball-peen hammer. If that
won’t make any dents, you’re good so far.

Then, you can inspect the inside of most of the tubes by
drilling a small hole in the bracket end (if there isn’t one
already) then inserting the bulb of an older non-LED
Mini-Maglite to illuminate the inside while you look in the
hole at other end.

Mine were quite clean inside so I filled them with LPS3,
then let the excess drain out, leaving the inside covered
with the inhibitor.

Better than spending thousands of dollars unnecessarily.–

There is no ‘’ recognition ‘’ of the workmanship . It is a
simple and rather greedy hike in price , at a time when
neither the material costs nor the labour costs of production
in the UK are increasing–

I agree the price hike may not be an overt ‘recognition of
the workmanship’ but if it is to stick it will essentially
require buyers to do that, to justify paying a higher
price than they could pay elsewhere.

For whatever reason (and there were several) the previous
price can now be seen as unrealistically low, since it was
clearly too low to sustain the business long term. Ergo,
something clearly had to give.

The alternatives for a non-viable business are to change
the business or increase the revenue (or go under, of
course).

Since the business structure has changed significantly,
with more people involved to relieve the pressure, the
cost base has gone up markedly even without any increase
in materials or production labour cost.

There is no monopoly in frame supply so greed doesn’t
really apply IMO. It’s a free market. They have done their
sums, come up with a premium price for a premium product
and will perhaps lose some business to those able to turn
out adequate alternative product at lower cost. If they’ve
done their sums right, the business will now be viable
long term - maybe with a smaller customer base, maybe not.
If it’s not viable, they can look at the business again
and tinker once more to come up with a different formula.

Since there was a finite number built and the survivors
are almost certainly being used less as their value
skyrockets, I suspect there will be, or may already have
been, a peak in denand followed by gradual decline to a
niche market servicing the dwindling number of barn finds,
unrestored cars and crash victims.

And I’m sure they will do the job just fine Andrew.

For me, the reasoning behind buying from Uryk and not Robey was two
fold…reports from this forum of the excellent workmanship along
with the obvious improvements in materials as indicated from Uryk’s
website…the delivered price difference between the two
suppliers simply wasn’t wide enough to steer me away from what I
considered, given point number one, to be the better product.

Now, in today’s world with escalated pricing, I might think
differently. It will be interesting to see if Robey’s prices escalate
this year also.On Fri, Mar 6, 2015 at 5:48 AM, abowie abowie1965@gmail.com wrote:

Agreed, I’ve “never” seen a complaint here about Robey’s frames but
only accolades about Uryk’s.

As an update in 2019, I just purchased a set of E Type Fabs frame rails from Uryk. They look fabulous. I will trial fit them in the next month and them have them painted. Although I only had a couple of rust spots on the original passenger side frame rail, I decided to replace them both so I will be assured that I will have no issues in the years to come.

What ever happened to the frames Classic Jaguar was having produced? Or might they have been selling frames made by someone else?

Unfortunately, Richard passed away two or three years ago. Great guy.

Nice.
I thought Hutson’s in the U.K. was his exclusive agent now?

Sorry, don’t know…

It used to be Richard but what with the revamp of Uryk’s company I don’t believe Richard is involved with that business any longer.

Now we know: it’s Chuck at Monocoque Metalworks.

My only beef with Chuck’s discussion about them on YouTube is he claims that the picture frame was made from Reynolds 531, and I’m pretty sure that’s not correct.

Absolutely its not correct.

Regards,

Bill
