[E-Type] Eagle Lowdrag E-Type vs V8 F-Type Coupe

Did anyone see tonight’s Top Gear in the UK? Clarkson
compared the F-Type with Eagle’s new Lowdrag E-Type. Guess
which came out on top?

He did enjoy driving the F-Type around the track but
criticised it for being too ‘‘shouty’’ and suggested the
noise would become very annoying very quickly. He also
criticised it for having dangerously poor sideways vision
when turning onto a road. To me, it did look (and sound)
rather vulgar - styling-wise not a patch on the elegance
and sheer presence of the E-Type.

Eagle’s ‘‘up to date’’ Lowdrag E-Type came out on top -
despite the quite ridiculous price Eagle are asking (more
than 800,000). I must admit, it did sound glorious and
looked drop-dead gorgeous. Want one.–

Eagle’s own price for the ‘basic’ Low Drag GT is only 695k
(or $1,045k in colonial pounds). I note that Brundle has
bought one. Clearly the fees paid by Sky for reporting on
F1 are quite substantial!

On the F, Clarkson must be getting old. (Actually, Clarkson
is getting old!) He used to rave about one of the Astons -
dont recall which but it was loud - as he knew his wife
could hear him coming home from miles away. It wont be long
before he’ll be presenting Top Gear in carpet slippers to
protect his delicate tootsies from nasty hard leather
footwear. He may be 6’7’’ and very many pounds in weight but
he’s still a big girl’s blouse.

Back to the Low Drag. Dont bother with the Eagle version,
there’s a recreation of the Lindner Nocker low drag coupe
for sale (not the factory version which apparently inspired
the Eagle Low Drag). Yours for less than 300k. You could
buy two for the price of one Eagle Low Drag and have change
to fill the tank for around 400,000 miles of motoring.

Meanwhile my E has been out and about over the last few
days, blowing away the cobwebs in the spring sunshine. Sod
wanting the F-Type or a Low Drag, I’ve always got my E.–

Ridiculous comment, as the exhaust noise is switchable
between civilized and hooligan. If it’s too loud turn it
down.

I assume the V8 F-type wiped the floor with the low drag
in terms of almost any performance criterion you care to
name? You know - the things measured by stopwatches and
instruments, not a clown’s subjective opinions?

To be fair to the clown Pete, he did turn the noise down -
it was still too loud. I can see how it could become a bit
grating after a while.

For me, the very fact that you can turn the exhaust noise
up and down at the press of a switch is one of the real
problems with the car - it is all a bit ‘‘x-box’’ or ‘‘play
station’’. Just as the way it electronically dumps a bit of
extra fuel to get an ‘‘authentic’’ crackle on the over-run.
Maybe it’s an age thing but I would go for the real thing
every time.

Still, anything that helps Jaguar’s sales can’t be a bad
thing. It is just that I am probably in a different
generation to the kinds of people this car is aimed at.
Pass me those carpet slippers …–

Hi,

Ok, I can imagine. I haven’t driven a V8 or a coupe, but
the V6 open car was a bit quiet in my ears, unless again
electronically opened up, after which it was nice. Not too
noisy IMHO but perhaps the big V8 is that much different.

I just adjusted timing and tuned the four carbies on the
V12 yesterday, so my head is still full of fumes.
But I do love the S3 for that, it can naturally be very
quiet and comfortable, but if you decide to floor it, the
noise is very, very exciting and addictive. Now I need to
find a good dyno and see what she can produce. Besides
fumes and noise that is.

Cheers,

BTW has TopGear USA aired a piece about the Bowler Evoke?
Filming of this took place in May 2014 in Scotland’s Highlands.–

roundabout to gain an edge but he steamed past me as I touched
60 in secondhe went on up into three figures, but then slowed
to let me past with a thumbs up for me giving it a golets be
honest, the E is the most fun, what we called blood and guts
motoring in my youth…–

Exactly what I was thinking so IMHO it discredited anything else he
had to say. No question the Eagle car is wonderful but its a one off
toy for the wealthy and not going to go out and play with the big
boys. Hate to be harsh but comparisons are pretty much for amusement
and perhaps the ego of the buyer.
