[E-Type] Electric Relay Redux

While getting bits ready to be plated it occurred to me that
I should be cleaning up and plating the relay cases. I’m
encouraged after blasting one of the cruddy cases and can
now read the stamped letters/numbers on the side.

However, now what to do with the guts? I found some guidance
in the archives on cleaning the contacts but I can’t help
but to wonder what other tips/tricks might be available from
the brain trust?
i.e.
What to do about paper unravelling from the coil?
Best way to clean and de-grease the base? Spades? Contacts?
Best practice for testing?
Any other tips/tricks and/or warnings?

Thanks!–

Wow…plating the can…OK.re internals…the actual relay
contacts should be cleaned with very worn 3M wet/dry paper.
Any fraying insulating wrapping can be fixed with balsa
cement or similar. Clean brass electricals as for relay
contacts, and a brass Dremel wire brush is good. Make sure
the gasket that will seal the can is intact…otherwise make
new ones… when installing the can use a thin smear of
silicone.–

Just run a file over the points. The wire has lacquered insulation,
the paper shouldn’t matter. Degrease the base with your favorite
solvent, file the connectors, and install using dielectric grease.

Tip: don’t overdo it.
