Ron,
Make sure your tranny shifter boot is intact. Make sure any holes in the firewall are sealed up. Make sure the tranny cover is tight against the firewall.

Jerry

Thanks for the tip. It is comforting to know that I can now bring
my acquired knowledge and major tool to bear on the E!

The car is a 70 SeriesII OTS.

Thanks again!–

Ron,
Don’t forget what duct tape was invented for! It works fine
for sealing up verarious cracks and holes.
What year and model E Type are you working on?

Speaking of which – I found where the smoke was
released from the wires. It was my Jerry-rigged manual
cooling fan switch. Installing it last time I twisted it around too
much and the wires were binding – finally wore through.

Self healing though – burned all the way through in just
a minute! Very dramatic effect.

Garth,

The housing is a generic engineering term. It is a housing because
it houses a wire mesh which acts as the oil collecter. Any droplets
of oil will gather on the mesh and drop back to the engine.

‘‘device’’ is embossed on the top of it with a load of other stuff.
Anyway, if it says ‘‘housing’’ in the book, what is it supposed to
house?

Dave,

Ahhhhh a WIRE MESH. That explains why it rattles when I shake it.

Thank’s very much, that’s all I wanted to know…

I have a 1970 series 2.
Triple carbs were installed, with 3 stainless air cleaners.
Anyone have an idea what should I do with breather.
thanks–

Just like Jaguar did with the first of the E’s where the breather tube
was connected to the atmosphere!

In all seriousness, ‘google’ ‘‘puke tank’’. These are in
common use in the racing world.

In reply to a message from jvs1957 sent Tue 21 Sep 2010:

You can always connect it to the back of one of the air
filters. This is just to keep the oil from sputtering about
(or you can get a puke tank for the oil to drip in). In any
regard, be sure to replace the original gas cap with a
ventilated one (S1).

In reply to a message from Stevenson Robert sent Tue 21 Sep 2010:

I agree with Bob. A puke tank could cost money, and just
‘‘connecting it to the atmosphere’’ serves the social purpose
of helping to condition asphalt roadways.

Here is what I did with my 70 Series II:

If nothing shows up, go to the E-type section of the photo
album and look for Breather. I just posted it today.–

I got rid of my engine breather to the plenum and set it up as
original, to atmosphere.
Don’t want to pollute the air intake with dirty fumes and oil:-)
