[E-Type] FW: SNAPS: submission approved!

Rich Lange asked me to post a couple more pics. Sorry I didn’t get to it
before I left but here 'tis. The first is self explanatory and the next two
show the wheel and center dash panel conversion I did.

(Ahem)

THE GREAT SOUTHWESTERN BARE-HANDED WOLF CHOKERS QUILTING, WADING AND OURAY
SOCIETY E TYPE TRIP!!

(Now that I have your attention:)

The final two pix are just bait for those who might be interested in the
Ouray trip on September 12-15. So far it looks like there will be three cars
anyway and hopefully as the time draws near, we’ll have more.

These were taken in the canyon just south of Ouray on the way to Yankee Boy
Basin which is one of many of the mining districts in the area dating back
to the late 1800s. This is typical scenery (no exaggeration) for the San
Juan Mountains. Actually, the cliff overhang was used in a series of Jeep
commercials a few years back. Hopefully, we will be able to take a full day
and drive the loop from Ouray over Red Mountain Pass ( 11,018 ft.) to
Silverton and on to Durango where we’ll have either Serious Texas BBQ for
lunch or if you want, continue on West through Mancos valley past Mesa Verde
and have some pretty good Mexican food in Cortez. The choice is up to the
group, although the Serious Texas BBQ ( actual name of the place) is really,
really good and that’s my vote. Nothing fancy at all, just great hand-held
BBQ served with a roll of paper towels and beer and stuff.

From Cortez, we’ll turn North and follow the Dolores River to Rico and top
out at Lizard Head Pass ( 10,250 ft), all the while surrounded by the
“fourteeners” ( mountain tops over 14,000 ft.). Then, drop down into
Telluride for another refreshment break. After that, it’s just 54 miles down
Sawpit Canyon and back up across the Dallas Divide to Ridgeway ( where “True
Grit” was filmed) and Ouray. GREAT DRIVING, GUYS AND GIRLS!!! Bring LOTS of
film.

Then, we’ll still have a full day to hang out and do whatever you want.
Maybe rent a Jeep ( there ARE limits for an E TYPE) and visit some of the
ghost towns and mines.

Anyone interested, let me know and I’ll get you info on lodging.

Dick,
I’m glad your brakes worked when you parked for that last one!
I love that nice, fat mahogany wheel, and the walnut dash panel.
I’ve been thinking lately of doing that do mine. I have a couple
planks of gorgeous black walnut a friend gave me. I may have to
spend and afternoon in the wood shop some weekend soon…–

Dick:
I love the burl walnut center section-and the wheel looks great,
too! After living with acres of it in my Cloud, my senses say that
it’s just an integral part of a British car. I still can’t seem to
get it through my head that Jaguar left it out of the E. You
certainly have improved over the factory here!

Thanks! You always worry about modifying something and screwing up the car
overall but I felt I was on good ground with these two items. The rest of
the car is essentially original so I don’t think I’ve harmed it and I don’t
plan to modify anything else. Besides, like you, I believe it just belongs
there. British, y’know…
