[E-Type] GKN sub frame bolts

I understand the 5/16 x1 in. bolts are special and have that
little raised area under the head to prevent scratching the
frames. And, that original equipment type are NLA.

But, are there 5/16 x 1 bolts that have that raised area? If
so, what are they called so I can ask for them?

Or do you just put a small washer under the head and use a
plain old Grade 5 x 1 bolt?

Would a drop of oil on the subframe under bolt prevent paint
damage at all?

Looks like I am short about two subframe to firewall bolts.–

Bill,

In the US they seem to be called Hex Headed Cap Screws or
sometimes Hex Cap Screws. They seem to be available from many
fastener vendors online (e.g. Fastenal, Grainger). I did notice a
few sites who seemed to refer to their bolts (with no circular
land under the head) by the same name, so be wary that you are
getting exactly what you want.

Bill,
The original GKN bolts can be found used on Ebay from time
to time. Failing that you might be able to make some small
diameter washers but I don’t think you could find any such
washer in a fastener catalog as a standard item. The hole
for the bolt and the outer diameter would be quite close to
each other making the washer look like a thin ring.–

Bill, Pegasus racing sells special airframe bolts with
different grip lengths and thread lengths that might work.
The also sell washers that are very thin and smaller
outside diameter than standard ones which would fit under a
standard hardware store bolt and hardly be visible.
