I recently sent all the appropriate info to the Heritage Society to
confirm I had an original 65 fhc with matching numbers. I knew I
did, but it’s nice to see it in writing. Their preliminary reply to
verify accuracy was just great. My car was delivered to CA where
the original owner took delivery. The fantastic thing wrt the
authenticity was the exterior color/interior color verification-
something I had not expected. My color is Dark Opalescent Green
with a black interior. I could not find this color combination as
being available from the factory in any of the research books I
reviewed. As the second owner I was sure the interior color was not
changed, but this puts to rest my 1% doubt and eliminates any
problem with judging or color authenticity. Regards, Bill Denning–

Finally got round to applying for a certificate and received
it a few days ago. Original colour was cream with black
interior, it is now Carmen Red with the same colour interior.
The original number plate was JAG 21E it is now APT 579F.
The first owner was J Scott Sons Meat Ltd, Kilmarnock,
Ayrshire. I have done a search on the number plate and first
owner but have drawn a blank.
Anyone else had any surprise on viewing their Heritage
Certificate?–

Yeah, mine was Silver with red interior, now it is black with
black…it happens! Ya know, one man’s meat (first owner was J
Scott Sons Meat Ltd)…pun intended…

Hmm, why the one year difference in the number
plates???..wrecked???..hope not.On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 2:42 AM, Johno johnben@ntlworld.com wrote:

Does/did the UK allow the owner of a car to keep the number
plate of a car when they sell it if they want to put it on
another car? If so, I’d guess that the original owner wanted
to keep the ‘‘JAG’’ number, and sold the car after only one
year, so it had to get a new number…

Even so, although it’s been too many years since I operated in the UK
environment, I would suspect that the “E” UK '67 registration would
continue to be required even if the plates were changed later, unless
another personalized plate was fitted. Maybe not so but that would
be my first guess. On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 12:24 PM, davidxk dxlangley@sbcglobal.net wrote:

Les,

I wondered about that too - I think that you are correct
that it was illegal at the time to use a plate that was
‘‘newer’’ than the car. Since we don’t know the original date
of registration (the Heritage certificate would be a help
here), it’s hard to tell. An ‘‘E’’ registration indicates 1967
Jan-July, whilst and ‘‘F’’ is 1967 Aug - 1968 July. One
possible scenario would be that the car is actually an ‘‘F’’
car, but was first registered with the ‘‘E’’ plate from an
older car (legal) because of the desirable ‘‘JAG’’ prefix.
When the car was sold, the owner kept the plate, so it had
to be re-registered with an age-appropriate plate.
Interesting to know…

Well, I was surprised that the transmission number on the first
certificate I got did not match the one in the car. It was off by
one digit in the middle. I was finally able to convince them that
they had made a typo, thankfully.

Also they had the name of the original owner wrong – terrible
handwriting. I still had the original warranty certificate and so
I sent a pdf of that in and they corrected it.

Clearly something caused the authorities to require the vehicle to use
an E plate. I can’t imagine what would have changed…I mean, it
seems like you’d have to “un-register” the car, prove it was a later
vehicle, then re-register it??? As I say, been out of it for over 30
years now but the only thing I can think of is for the vehicle to have
been decommissioned for some reason, then out back into service.

I’m sure the truth of this is going to be far simpler and less
worrisome…I hope so anyway!On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 1:13 PM, davidxk dxlangley@sbcglobal.net wrote:

Thanks for the extra information Tom, where do you get all
that stuff from? Regarding the registrations, the Heritage
Certificate states Date of manufacture as 1 Feb 1967, Date
of dispatch 13 february 1967. The V5C states the date of
registrstion as 1 August 1967. I guess the original Reg No
(JAG 21E) must have been worth as much as the car and
retained when it was sold on. Academic in a way as the car
was a rusting wreck in the 90’s and was rebuilt, still the
plate must be around somewhere, I will investigate further.
