[E-Type] Ignition switch mounting bracket on steering column?

Hello all,
I have an early 1969 E-Type with A/C installed and I am
about ready to remove the (non-functional) A/C unit from
under the dash to restore the interior to a ‘‘non-A/C’’
condition. However I have run into a snag in that there is
no bracket of any type on my steering column for the
mounting of the ignition switch (which is currently
mounted to a flat bracket that is attached to the front of
the A/C unit under the dash). Apparently at some point
after the production of my car the steering column was
changed with the addition of a locking ignition and of
course the cars prior to the Series 2 had the ignition
switch mounted in the center of the dash. I can find no
parts supplier who sells a bracket of the type I need so
I’m going to have to fabricate one but, if I could find a
picture/drawing of the bracket it would make it a lot
easier for me to do so. Does anyone have any knowledge
about this bracket or perhaps have an early Series 2
without a locking steering column that could send me an
image of the bracket that mounts the ignition switch to
the steering column on their car?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!–
NaplesGuy

Chet -

I later realized that the thread I was thinking of was on
another Forum - but then you know that as it was you who
asked there also.

You might want to add your name to your signature line - we
like to use first names here plus that will also make it

You might try a European (esp German) vendor or scrapper for the
bracket or outer column. Actually locking steering came in there
well prior to S2 cars and for the US market non AC cars had the
bracket from 1968. It is a relatively easily made part but it is
brazed to the outer column.–

You are certainly correct that it was me who posted the
question on another forum as well as here so I’m sorry for
any confusion!–

Chet- My early Series 1.5 has the collapsible steering
column and and column mounted ignition switch. The ignition
switch bracket in my case is NOT brazed to the column, but
is held in place with grub screws. I have uploaded a few
photos and will post them when approved.–

I actually cut the bracket off the a/c unit and used that. Not a
good plan if you’re planning to re-use or sell on the unit, of
course.–

Tim, I’m ok with doing that but…how did you attach that
bracket to your steering column?
