Replaced front rotors, and pads, Squeal!
Replace front pads again (green stuff), Squeal!
Machined rotors perfectly flat, Squeal!
Took off pad retainers, Squeal!
Sprayed with anti-squeal and you guessed it - Squeal!

WTF…, do I do next?
Don’t stop!
Seriously though: Are you certain the squeal is coming from the front brakes?
Johnnie,
Sometime bevelling the edges of the pads will fix
that…and sometimes not. Give it a try.

I think Greenstuff already have beveled edges, and a slot
cut across. Both tricks supposed to stop squeal.–

Johnnie,
What year/Series is your car?
Greenstuff comes with an abrasive surface meant to clean up the
rotor. Have you driven both sets of pads long enough so that was
all gone? if not, let them wear down and see if the squeal stops.
No squeal on mine – with greenstuff, well bedded in. So I guess I
won’t be much help. I can say that I had no squealing after I
installed the Greenstuff. My disks were brand new at that point.

Have you tried going out on an empty road and doing three or
four emergency stops from 40mph? I find if I only use gentle
brake pressure when touring my brakes start to squeal. A few
firm applications and everything goes quiet again. Drive it
hard!

Correct, although longer harder stops from higher speeds would be
my choice.
This is why brake squeal can come and go on long trips and why
autos tend to squeal more than manuals, as they have to be
restrained on the brakes lightly all the time in traffic. That’s
what polishes/glazes the pads. Is Johnnie’s car an auto?
If bevelled edges, roughening up and hard stops don’t fix it at
least temporarily then it’s something else I reckon. Don’t ask me
what though!
It is a PITA either way and on the Belgian rally in the open D-type
the constant loud squeal from the following V12 did nothing for my
sense of humour, although it affected my younger, less deaf son
more…

Pete
sorry for your son’s ears. I was embarassed my E was
‘‘singing’’ so hard !! behind your D !
I had done what Johnnie did and the squeal came back also !
I complained to my Jag mechanic and he suggested something he did
now several types on E’s with success(yes mostly automatic for the
reasons mentionned by Pete) :
he drilled grooves on the discs both sides, to reduce glazing
effect (and have some cooling? air flow effect?). He also replaced
the pads with Ferodo racing pads (kindly as it was the third time
he tried to fix this issue and replaced pads already) and since
then…total silence (drove to/back from Goodwood from/to Belgium
and had driven before that in Belgium -so around 500-600 miles so
far and still silence…
keep fingers crossed !
best regards
