[E-Type] Lap-sash seat belt fitting

Hello All, I’ve been getting some domestic pressure to fit
lap-sash style seat belts in place of the existing lap belts
in our coupe. I have sourced belts from XK’s, including a
fitting kit and instructions and will have to make a
reinforced hole in the sill beneath the rear windows. Would
be interested in any observations and photographs that may
assist.
Thanks in advance, Paul–

Hi Jerry, thanks for that! I haven’t made it that far yet -
they just arrived. That would indeed be ideal. Mine’s
October '62 - will advise. Regards, Paul–

You should be good. Mine had a decorative escutcheon where
the belt mounts, but you would have noticed it I guess, or
maybe it’s under the cantrail… The mounts make the whole th
thing easy.

If you don’t have the factory mounting points as per
Jerry’s recommendation let us know and I’ll take some
pictures of mine when I get the car back next week. Enough
of the interior trim is out that I can easily take some
pics for you.–

Jerry/John - found the factory point, just need a spacer to
‘‘stand off’’ through the trim as correct bolt provided in the
kit. Thanks very much for your assistance, Paul–

Paul,
Here is what my mounting point looks like with the interior
panels removed prior to installation. The clip that was
supplied in my aftermarket seat belts was too large (wide
shouldered) to fit up close to the mounting point without a
spacer too, so I used some standoffs of the proper
diameter. I have been warned that the mounting bolts may
come loose in a major collision due to the leverage they
could apply to the mounting points, so I researched and
found smaller clips, but to sew them into the seat belts is
a specialists job and no one will take on a modification
job like that - at least the ones I’ve talked to. SO I
recommend that you seek a seat belt kit that has the proper
small clips at the third point to enable the mounting to be
done without a standoff of any significant length.

Hi John, I have pulled back the trim and found the holes
and welded nuts. My car has no spacer through the trim as
your’s appears to have. The XK’s kit has a small spacer -
so I will see how that fits up. Thank you for the photos.
I’ll send some back to you - in case they are of interest.
