To whom it may concern
We at Classic Jaguar are proud to announce that the fastest man in the
building today was without a doubt our own Dan Mooney. The vehicle in use
at the time was one very heavily reworked OTS. As for the speed the above
Mr. Mooney achieved, lets just say that it was over 60% higher than
yesterdays max. All without leaving the building !. Technology is a truly
wonderful thing.
However, normal work will resume in the morning, so keep the tech
questions coming. The questions can be a trivial as you like, they will all
be answered and treated with equal enthusiasm.
Remember we are also dedicated Jaguar XKE enthusiasts whatever the model.

John,
Go ahead and tell the list just how fast Dan was able to go without messing
up his hair! (I know 'cause I talked to him - but I won’t tell.)

Hi Greg,

At the risk of being slammed for reckless driving habits and irresponsible
behavior generally…here’s what happened.

I was working away in my office when I heard a sound akin to sitting in the
middle of the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans coming through my window. I
naturally went to investigate and found Eric and John playing with the dyno
machine. Glancing at the screen, I noted that Eric had just piloted a run
at 155 mph (at 4,800 rpm) in one of our E Types. As rank hath its
privileges, I booted Eric out of the cockpit and strapped myself in. I
don’t actually know the final speed, but I know that I wound it up to 5,300
rpm in sixth (yes, it has a 6 speed installed). This equates to 165 +
mph… which I assure you gets your attention when you are chained to a
chassis dyno

Having recovered the record for the fastest speed achieved inside the shop,
I then imposed a 100 mph speed limit for all future runs. The record should
now be safe

Regards,

Dan Mooney

BTW, Greg, it wasn’t my hair I was in danger of messing up

Gotta admit, 165+ is a record that should hold anywhere, at least for a
while.
