Errm, Richard, no offence mate, but asking ‘Why?’ and referring
Dave to a commercial source (be it ever so good) is possibly not
the most constructive response to a nice guy 3000 miles from John F
when he asks for measurements to make his own stuff. I’m sure you
meant well though

Anybody got a tape measure and a complete LHD car who can help Dave?

I myself have a tape and a LHD car, but no heat shields to measure
up.

Anybody worked out the ID of one of Dave’s customers yet?–

I would be more than happy to measure up the shield on my 1964 fhc-
lhd. Just give me a few hours to drive to my garage and find the
right cardboard box.–

Thanks Ove

Now I’m trying to figure out whether you have a garage nearby and
LOTS of boxes to sort though, or your garage is a couple of hours
away but you will find the part immediately when you get there!

Back to work…–

Final measurements:

Height: 17,8 cm
lenght: 25,4 cm + 10,3 cm ( before and after angle )
Thickness : 0,1 cm ( plate only )
thickness : 0,8 cm ( with sound insulating material )

Add 2 cm on each side on the lenght to bend over sound proofing
material. My shield was slightly bent, so I was not able to obtain
accurate angle measurements, but they will be obvious if you have a
frame present.

Hope this helps.–

Because John’s cost is most likely less that one could construct
one on his own and certainly less time consuming and will be of
appropriate dimension and material. Any more questions Peter?

Richard,

I sincerely doubt that anyone could match my price and also
material used, I’ll blow my own trumpet here.
I went to one of the usuals here and asked for two exhaust heat
shields 75 about $139 at todays inflated exchange rate. Now
whether its becuase I am an engineer and look at items in terms of
value for money I could not bring myself to pay it and it seems
neither can others.
The other part that got me annoyed was the engine breather tube, 20
gauge 5/8 diameter tube at 60 or $110. I have any amount of this
lying around at work and is scrap that has been left over from
other jobs. It takes me 20 minutes with a tube bender to make one
and guess what, it fits!! spot on no pulling and tugging and making
do. Joe hardy bought one from over here, it looks nothing like,
even a scrap one I gave him fits better.
I don’t want to put anyone out of business and I doubt I will but
until they pull their socks up and stop overcharging for simple
items I will make them for anyone who wants one.
I have a company who also supply the ceramic heat shield material
really cheap and they can make a profit.
It has been mentioned before on this list we get ripped off on this
Island on everything from cars to white goods and from food to
cloathes.
Now that’s off my chest.

Thanks everyone for the dimensions, I can now get on with the job
and distribute at Stoneleigh.

I am interested as well to receive the ‘‘made-to-measure’’ heat
insulation material in order to fit them to the upper and lower
heat shields that I have taken from the car. I am also able to give
you the exact dimensions of both shields (containing 4 pieces of
heat insulation material). Please contact me!–
