[E-Type] Stainless heater pipes

I haven’t found the above on an archive search (maybe didn’t look
properly) but there is a set on Ebay #2436760847 which seem
suspiciously cheap.

Does anyone have experience of this vendor (britishpartsplace)
and/or these pipes? There are horror stories of pipes not fitting
and an already tricky job becoming a nightmare and pipes needing
extra bending etc.

I’m sure there is more than one vendor making these. Mine came from John
Farell Auto Parts in the USA. He makes about 300 bits and pieces for
e-types.

The real problem with fit is related to how poorly made the originals were!
They were mild steel and the radius bends were so tight that the pipe
actually wrinkles. A properly made mandrel bend should not wrinkle.

As a result, it may be slightly more difficult to get a modern replacement
into the tight holes. I had to enlongate one hole about 1/32 but it is
covered by the D washer so you can’t tell.

Since you are in the UK, I would also check with someone like Robey to see
what they offer.

I got mine from ‘britishpartsplace.’’ I believe them to be Engel
Imports, about which I have nothing to say but good! I’ve had great
service. even better prices, and and excellent communication with
them.
OTOH, what I found was that there are THREE distinct sets of
crossover pipes made for SI’s and SII’s (this, according to John
Farrel) and as such, if you get the wrong set for your car (I did)
it can be a BEAR to get them to fit. I didn’t realize this until
I’d already modified the set I had to fit. Make DARN sure which set
you have to replace with SS. It’s a bear to do and it’ll hurtcha!
But, it’ll never have to be done again!–

Peter,

Don’t buy them!!!
If you are going to Stoneleigh on Sunday, fetch your old ones and I
can make you some out of st.steel and the breather if your model
has the same as mine. I made my own AND they fitted.

Peter-
I believe “Britishpartsplace” is the online ebay store for Engel
Imports, here in Michigan. I’ve only purchased a few things from him, but
both the service and the prices have been good.

Well, I was going to ignore all the suggestions about buying from
the UK because anything I buy in the US on Ebay my sweetheart pays
for in dollars. Anything I buy here costs ME money!

However, Dave’s offer is too good to turn down so I’ll give him the
bizz on Sunday.

If there are three different types of pipe sets, which ones does
one of the first 2+2’s have? hope I can get the oldies out in time.–

Gee, what a deal! Can I give her a list of things I’ve seen on eBay that I
might want?

Peter,
In that case then you should never buy anything over there  Maybe you should also recosider how much its going to cost you to move over here.

Kevin,

I know you can get custom made SS pipes using your old ones as
templates from Dick Vandermyden (forum lister & E owner, Jag expert)
in the SF Bay Area.

He made a heater return pipe for me (under intake manifold) that
was exact duplicate of the origional.

I am sure he can make a set of ss pipes for you that mirror the old
set.

Call me if interested and I will gice you his number.
