[E-Type] Suffolk SS100

Just got back from a vacation in England and while there I took the
opportunity to rent, for three days, a Suffolk SS100. This is a replica of
a 1935 Jaguar SS100 that is built in Bury St. Edmonds in Suffolk, England.
It uses running gear pulled from 1960 and 1970 vintage Jags with rebuilt XK
engines, Jag transmissions, overdrives, IRS’s and front suspensions. The
body is a fiberglass repro of the SS100.

Let me say it was a ball to drive. With all the thrill of the XK engine and
suspension of a E-Type, it still felt like an old car with shakes and
rattles and open cockpit. I put some pictures up on Jag Lovers for you to
check out at http://www.jag-lovers.org/v.htm?1080791004

If you find yourself with some time in Jolly Old England get ahold of the
Grand Touring Club in Model Farm in Suffolk and spend a couple of days
behind the wheel of one of these incredible cars.

Oh yeh, Suffolk factory builds about 10 of these a year and will even make
one with left hand drive. You can also buy it as a kit. I’m saving my
money.

Wiggy,

The website for the SS100 is http://www.ss100.com/ . Check it out. I got
to meet Roger Williams the owner and he lovessssssssssssss his work. He
told me the kit runs about $36,000 and you supply engine, trans etc. and put
it all together and that the total average cost for someone building a kit
car is $67,000. While at the factory I talked for a while with a gentleman
from Scotland who had been putting one together for four years. He had
brought the car down to the factory for some up close and personal help and
his car was nearly ready. For them to supply and build a complete car runs
around $90,000. I’m saving my money.

Yes it was a blast to drive. I just rolled around the English countryside
with a great big stupid grin on my face. And yes it was
fast…

Assembling that looks like a great deal of fun. I love that it actually has appropriately sized wheels and tires. Just look at the
horror on their cars for sale page, of the “replica” built by a different company. Puke city.

Hmmmmmm.

Jason and Bonnie Len (XKs Unlimited owners) have one
that they brought to the Phoenix JCC last year, I am hoping
they will take it on the JONAT, too at least for one day.

They are distributors for the car, and Roger Williams comes
to the XKs Open House in October every year with one of his
cars.
