Engine coolant low

filled up with water in an emergency but still warning came on

It could be a faulty coolant level sensor in the expansion tank (in front of the firewall on the left side) or perhaps air in the system.

Many thanks for your reply. I’ve had the car to a garage since and had the engine flushed the refilled with Anti Freeze, they checked all the sensors and seem to think the system was indeed airlocked

I have similar problem with my 2001 Super V8. Engine coolant low warning light has been showing for a week but level is fine (bottom of filler neck). Started after being parked up and static for a week. Have added water and run engine until hot; then let cool down until safe to release filler cap which allowed excess to blow out. Light still on. Coolant level still at bottom of filler neck. How does an ancient mariner with a shortfall in mechanical brain cells shift an airlock? Thanks in advance
