Just because it isn’t going to go back together the same as it came apart, doesn’t mean you can’t do a good job or even improve it. If you are working in your own time, then you’ll probably do a better job than a professional. Their dilemma is that they’ll either have to pass on a huge bill to the customer or they’ll want to go home at 5:30 every evening.
Given that the bonnet is a mass of flowing curves, the key to a successful result is to have smooth metal everywhere. The problems start when you have kinked, holed, folded, rippled and dent pulled surviving panels bolted against replacement new sheet metal. With no rust and no damage, you are in a better position than most of us.
