From HIF7 to HS8 carb

My serie 2 engine was replace decades ago by the previous owner with a serie 1 engine.
He kept the 2" intake but reused the two HIF7 carbs that where on the car.

I can get two HS8 and I’m wondering if can reuse the throttle linkage?

Is there anything I should pay attention to if I install HS8 carbs?

Thank you for your help!

Romain,

I’d probably try to get my hands on the HS8, as they are well built and made to fit the SII engine.

Yet, the HIF7 are built for the same purpose and leave a bit more room to manoeuvre. As long as the ones in your car work well I would not touch them.

So, get the HS8 and rebuild them, just in case …

Good luck

I certainly didn’t hate the HIF7 XJC I got to compare with my HD8 XJ, it ran very well and had good torque. So if it’s expensive I would never, but if they’re around and collect dust why not experiment…
It depends on the linkage, surely something could be made if required.

Thanks! The carbs are for sale, locally, but definitely need a rebuild.
Since my car needs a lot of maintenance, I will focus on that instead of trying to improve what is OK.

That is the right choice.

Maybe, just if you’ve got enough space, the price is right and you’re not super tight on your budget, it is a good idea to simply get them into your shelf … Not for today or tomorrow, but at some point in time they will come in handy, even if only because they permit you to rebuild one set, while you still drive with the other.

Good luck
