Gear Reduction Starters

I’m considering replacing the starter on our 1973 SIII V12 E-Type, does anyone have experience in such. XK’s has them on sale; http://xks.com/i-6918399-jaguar-gear-reduction-starter-v-12-1972-later-17-4002.html?ref=category:1207421

Cheers!

Not on a V12: the one I installed in my Rover transformed how it starts, saved about 12 pounds, and is not that expensive.

Much appreciated. I think I will give one a try, as you say its not that expensive.

put one on the xjs, half the weight and spins easier. more room too! cant remember brand but was just over $100.00.

I had one installed on my '76 XJ-S years ago. Very satisfied with the results. You might want to shop around to get a better price.

BTW, Bernie Embden has a write-up on the project:

Hi Ed,

Thank you, very much appreciated.

18 years in my one ETYPE…I gained 3 mpg from the weight savings…: )

I got mine from SNG Barratt: it’s the same starter for an early SI E, as it is for the Rover.

Tony matched the price from Gustafson!

Got mine for my S3 from SNG last year. Only about 600 miles on it, but so far recommended. Too early to comment on any gas mileage improvements :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
