Gearbox Confusion

When i purchased this 63 Jag, The gearbox was sitting in the passenger compartment and I later discovered it was not the original gearbox, but one from a 69 2+2. It had the long tail piece. I have since worked with another forum member to convert it back to Series 1 version.

My question has to do with the fact that I am still unsure of what I have. The numbers on the top plate match the numbers on the on the gearbox case. K JS 2775. According to the “Classic Register” this is a Pre-1965 gearbox, meaning non-synchomesh. Yes?

Can someone with more knowledge than me confirm what I have or what else to look for? I am scratching my head because the data plate is missing and the numbers should have a “EJS” prefix denoting that is came from a 2+2.

Thanks,
Kevin

KJS2775 is a correct number for a 69 2+2.

Synchromesh gearbox

The Haynes manual lists the 2+2 transmissions as KJS 101 onwards and being the wide ratio synchromesh gearbox with ratios of 2.933,1.905, 1.389 and 1-1
