Help to identify XK-140 chassis bracket (see photo)

I would greatly appreciate someone’s help in identifying the purpose for the two brackets on my XK-140 chassis identified in the attached photo. The brackets extend inward (8"-10" ) from each side frame member, just ahead of the differential. (They attach to the frame just behind the point where the horizontal side frame “elbows” upward to connect the very rearmost portion of the chassis that supports the spare tire and trunk (boot) area.) These brackets have two holes toward the inside end with the total bracket measuring avout 8"-10" long and 3" tall. My pre disassembly photos show nothing attached. Any Idea of their purpose?
Thanks,
Tom A

Hi Tom…exhaust mount brackets…Steve

Steve,
That makes eminent sense, I should have guessed that. In my defense, the car was acquired in pieces (the body /chassis plus 14 boxes) with no exhaust beyond the exhaust manifold. Thank you so much, that helps.
