Is there more than one thickness of starter flange shim available or required?
Does the rotational position of starter on its mounting flange affect starter gear engagement?
(on XJ6C with T5 trans, XKE bell and custom mounting adapter.)

I have no experience with this combination. Check the archives. David Dwomby posted on his similar combination. Ring gear issues there.
But, yes the engagement of the starter teeth and the teeth on the ring gear is critical In two planes.
Shims are used in similar arrangements at times. but, not always.
And yes rotation can effect gear contact depth. also critical…
